WIKI

WEEK 7 (Thing 16 & 17)

Can't believe Wikipedia has been going since the mid 1990's as I have only seen it in the past 2 years. I think they are great if you are working within a group with a common purpose ie project or such, also socially. The Commoncraft show demo ( I found excellent and simple) with your 3 main tools Edit, Save and Link. I would look at Wikipedia with eyes wide open because of it's free for all nature. Would go to other sources and compare especially with important things that need to be accurate. Vandalism, Spam and False information a bit of a worry!!!
Read about Wiki's usefulness in libraries as in Bulletin Boards, Community items and Community Interests. Then Book Reviews which customers can add to and comment on, thought this really great and useful. Also sharing ideas and things to do across the library world, agree with "why invent the wheel" when someone else has done a good job.

Had a look at Sandbox good idea to have a play before letting novices onto the real thing. Having a your own log in is probably a good idea after reading that although you can edit without logging in, if you do it this way, your information could be publicly recorded.
Don't think I would create a Wiki at the moment but I do read them and understand them better now.
