LIBRARY 2.0 and LIBRARIES

WEEK 6 (Thing 15)

I have seen a lot of exciting things working my way through 2.0 some I will use and others probably at this stage won't. I think libraries and staff will have to keep up with technology as it is on a roll now and not going to stop, with new inventions coming up everyday.

We may even (hopefully not in our time as we would seriously be out of work) have virtual libraries where we virtually (if that is the word) walk to the shelves, choose a book and download, all from the comfort of our 'lazy-boy chair' which would have a new name like 'x-l-b-v- pod 2020', standing for xtra-lazy-boy-virtual pod 2020.

I think there will be some resistance and in the next few generations we will live in both worlds as there will always be people who want to hold a book and feel the excitement of stepping into the pages. (Another possible reality to look forward to one day). Others may be in a hurry to get information and so technology and fast information will be just what they want.

So exciting times are ahead for us and as long as people still have choices all should be well. My Mother told me a story once about the first time she saw a car she ran screaming down the street shouting "there's an elephant coming" and when she grew up she drove and sat in an elephant called a Ford (colour...you've guessed it Black).
